I wonder if WIS can get a win this week. The Championship hangover is apparently real.

Welcome to the EFL Week 9

In Seattle this week, the top 2 teams in the West battle with Seattle looking for a statement win over Los Angeles to show their worthiness as a contender for the title

In Wisconsin, the Brigade are looking to rebound from a tough start to the season as they find themselves in last place just one year after winning the championship, but the Mambas aren’t looking to lose more ground on the teams in front of them either

In Miami, the Wolfpack have had a tough year so far and now they have a tough matchup with one of the biggest surprise teams in the EFL this year, the Neptune who are competing for homefield advantage in the playoffs

And in our marquee matchup of the day, the New York herd look to hold onto their slim lead in the East while the New Orleans Kraken are eager to pull off an upset

Let’s get to the action!

12:17TOUCHDOWN! (Basais kick good)

What a start to the game for the Herd! New York has the top offense in the league in both points and yards per game, and it’s been an explosive passing offense that has been the key to their success. Here Crawford spreads the ball out while picking up big chunks of yardage, and the 35-yard TD strike to Willinsky is the perfect way for them to open up this game on the road.

12:17NY - 30Basais, R. kicks off.

12:17The kick sails into the endzone.

12:17Blade, B. takes it out of the endzone!

12:17---NO - 26Kickoff of 74 yards. Returned by Blade, B. for 26 yards.

12:091st and 10NO - 26Rush by Helmsley, T. for a short gain. Tackle by Sabathia, C..

11:442nd and 10NO - 26Pass by Saint Sebastian, A., complete to Jackson, D. for 7 yds. Tackle by Fence, D..

11:103rd and 3NO - 33Rush by Helmsley, T. for 13 yds. Tackle by Kamayaki, T..

10:311st and 10NO - 46Pass by Saint Sebastian, A. to Mysidia, P. was dropped! Incomplete.

10:272nd and 10NO - 46Pass by Saint Sebastian, A., complete to Jackson, D. for 10 yds. Tackle by Fence, D..

This is a nice and efficient drive from the Kraken so far. New Orleans does not want this game to be a shootout as they’ve only topped the 30-point mark once this season, but their offensive playmakers shouldn’t be underestimated as ASS, Jackson, Mysidia and Helmsley are developing into a nice core for them.

9:501st and 10NY - 43Saint Sebastian, A. throws the ball away to avoid the sack.

9:332nd and 10NY - 43Pass by Saint Sebastian, A. to Evans, O. was dropped! Incomplete.

9:303rd and 10NY - 43Pass by Saint Sebastian, A. to Jackson, D. falls incomplete.

9:234th and 10NO - 43Punt by McKickmoare, M. of 43 yards. Touchback.

New Orleans stalls once they enter New York’s side of the field, a tough loss for them as the punt only nets them 23 yards. The last time New York had the ball they moved down the field easily, so New Orleans is going to need to make some quick adjustments here before the Herd take advantage of them again.

9:191st and 20NY - 10Herd Penalty on Wilinsky, D.: Illegal use of Hands.

8:581st and 20NY - 10Rush by McDonald, R. for 31 yds. Tackle by Christophe, J..

raw

What a run by McDonald! That’s the longest run in the EFL so far this year, and the sort of play that gets opened up after you start a game with 5 passes for 75 yards.

6:431st and 10NO - 37Pass by Crawford, L., complete to Slade, H. for 32 yds. Tackle by Blade, B..

And New Orleans seems to still have no answer for the Herd passing game, their offense is looking like a finely tuned machine so far in this one. They have a 1st and goal coming up from the 5 yard line with New Orleans being desperate for a stop.

5:26TOUCHDOWN! (Basais kick good)

New York continues to find success as they’ve made a huge statement so far in this one. McDonald is the one that gets the TD this time, a nice reward for his huge run to kick start the drive, and it’s the Herd up comfortably early.

4:203rd and 6NO - 15Kraken Penalty on Barrett, R.: Illegal Substitution

4:203rd and 6NO - 15Pass by Saint Sebastian, A., complete to Jackson, D. for 11 yds. Tackle by Fizzlebeef, R..

3:401st and 10NO - 26Rush by Helmsley, T. for a short gain. Tackle by Sabathia, C..

3:192nd and 10NO - 26Pass by Saint Sebastian, A., complete to Jackson, D. for 5 yds. Tackle by Fence, D..

2:583rd and 5NO - 31Rush by Helmsley, T. for 2 yds. Tackle by Crittenden, J..

2:444th and 3NY - 33Punt by McKickmoare, M. of 41 yards.

2:44Returned by McDonald, R. for 18 yards.

The early strategy for New Orleans isn’t working right now simply because their defense hasn’t shown themselves to be capable of stopping New York’s offense. That offense will have some excellent field position once again here after a great return by McDonald sets up NY at their own 44 yard line

0:173rd and 15NO - 47Pass by Crawford, L. to Wilinsky, D. is incomplete. Broken up by Christophe, J..

0:134th and 15NY - 47Punt by Basais, R. of 47 yards. Touchback.

That penalty is a blessing for the Kraken as they are finally able to force a stop on the Herd’s offense. Nice pass deflection by the rookie Jean Christophe on 3rd down, and the Kraken offense will get their next shot starting at their own 20.
