Dear University of Miami Students, Family and Friends,

As the sun sets on yet another summer, I would like to welcome all of our faculty, staff, coaches, and, especially, the student-athletes, back to campus for, what is sure to be, a successful and much improved year here with our Hurricane Athletics Programs for the 2022/23 season. With a remarkable 2021/2022 season of athletics on multiple fronts behind us, I for one couldn't be prouder of our student-athletes, coaches and support staff, and of course none of our success could be possible without the generous contributions from our donors, alumni and fans for making it all possible.

We produced three individual national champions this past season in Ramone Lothland (men's track and field, 400m), Lucy Malloy (women's diving 10-meter platform) and Alicia-May Salisirrus (women's track and field, 10,000m). Lucy Malloy is the 6th Hurricane to win a National Championship for diving under head coach Walter Whetter, while Ramone and Alicia-May top off a long line of successful track and field stars we have produced at Miami under long time coach Pedro Runspha.

Magnum Cream led our football team to a 7-7 record and a playoff appearance in his first season as head coach. Managing to overcome the difficult situation he was placed in due to the mismanagement of the previous administration. the energy, emphusiasm and electrifying presence of Coach Cream is not only evident on the field, but in the stands as well. Miami boasted the largest percentage increase in attendance across all NCAA programs, and ticket sales suggest these figures will continue to rise as we head into the new season.

Both our men's and women's basketball teams advanced to the NCAA tournament last season, marking the 6th season in a row that men's coach Harry Hoggarty and women's coach Katie Meier's teams have made the tournament. Unfortunately I don't have to time to address all of our many successful athletes and programs of the past season here, but while we may not have won all the cups, competitions and challenges, Miami Hurricane athletes made it to many podium finishes and are in the prime position to make those improvements heading into the 2022/23 season.

Of course we mustn't forget our student-athletes are not just athletes, first and foremost they're students, scholars and eager minds that have proven to have widespread success off the field as well. Ten of our programs were recognised with having perfect scores on the latest NCAA Academic Progress Report, while 3 (women's cross country, men's golf and women's volleyball) were recognised for perfect APR scores across multiple years.  Our student athlete outreach program also saw great success and was recognised for their work by placing 4th in the NCAA Team Works Helper, Helper Community Service Award.

The increased attendance at games, events and competitions has helped to smash our record for annual giving, membership to the Hurricane Club and capital projects. We have had a 34% increase on last years income and will be looking to direct that extra funding to where it's needed most. We can only thank all of you for your considerable support and investment in our Miami Hurricane programs. Your generosity has helped our student-athletes succeed in the classroom, in competition -- and in life.

On the back of such a successful season across the board we are looking forward to kicking off the next one and hope to have your continued support, attendance and excitement.

Go Canes!
