The EFL Draft is once again quickly approaching. This is an opportunity for teams to regroup and reload for the upcoming season. As always, there are a high number of star caliber players in this draft as well. Who will go #1 overall, who will be Mr. Irrelevant? Instead of a traditional mock draft, Let's take a look at some things that I may have found strange, or interesting about this draft.
The best player available may be a......Kicker?
USC's Mowanabe Bad is anything but bad. He's a good player who had limited opportunities for the Trojans this season. He only kicked 15 field goals for the year, completing 12 of them. But you also see that he was the only kicker in the league to go perfect for xp's hitting 48/48. That 48 also led the league in attempts. So again he's a good player, but it's still weird to think that this kicker may be the most EFL ready player in this draft. Time will tell soon how high he goes. Will he set some type of record?!
Only one lone QB in this draft
This may just be common now as EFL teams usually don't carry more than one QB on their roster throughout the season. There are sometimes exceptions, like the Wolfpack carrying two passers this past season. It's not really the case though so it's always interesting seeing a young stud QB coming to the EFL and seeing if there is a spot for him. There are currently eight starting QBs in the league but three are nearing retirement already. Four if you want to include 5th year Gavin Rose. So we could potentially see our lone QB in Omgits DaddyTurner (Can't believe he made me write that....and say it) get nabbed by either the NY Herd, Seattle Predators, or New Orleans Krakens. QB may once again soon be a hot position of need in the EFL in the next couple seasons.
Get you a RB!
Much like the QB position, in year's past, some NCAA RBs may have had to do a position change in order to compete and stay in the EFL. This was also due to a lack of positions available to all these fine running backs. The prime RBs are now getting up there in age and replacements will be needed. The Herd, Wolfpack, Neptune, Predators, and Brigade will all be in the market for a reliable back soon. With three good looking strong prospects in this draft, expect them to go to these teams. Jebaseelan, Gesicki, and Kelly have similar games predicated around speed of course but to me Jebaseelan stands out. Most pundits have him going off the board as the #1 RB taken in the draft but his numbers speak for themselves. In overall yards, he was behind both his couterparts here but as part of a RB by committee in Texas, he still managed 1400+ yards and was better than both the aforementioned in yards/attempt. He should have fresher legs for the EFL, which should serve him well.
