McCorn/Cornholio Offseason 4 Update #2

Lester McCorn heads into his fifth year as a cornerback for the Wisconsin Brigade. Yeah, nothing too exciting right? However this season has a different kind of feel as Wisconsin could be poised for a jump in terms of their performance this year. The team has mostly remained the same and acquired some new talents through the draft and free agency. For the first time in McCorn’s NCAA/EFL career - he won’t have to go up against his cousin Mr. Cornholio twice a year. Why? It’s because Cornholio has finally joined forces by bringing his talents to Wisconsin, as well as... Santa Claus! Exciting times indeed.

Mr. Cornholio recently ended his offseason of uncertainty by signing a one-year deal with the Wisconsin Brigade. Wait, Wisconsin? Yes. It appears that the idea of finally teaming up with his cousin Lester McCorn and the opportunity to return to his featured offensive option role was too hard to turn down. This will be Cornholio’s third team in less than a year — is there something up? Has Cornholio become a cancer in the locker room that teams are not willing to deal with him for too long? Could he follow down the path of Antonio Brown and end up job-less by the end of the year? Only time will tell.

McCorn/Cornholio Year 5 Update #1

Lester McCorn heads into Year 5 as the starting cornerback for the Wisconsin Brigade. With some fresh blood coming into the team, the expectations have been raised slightly for the first time in years. Is that a good or a bad thing? Only time will tell. Rhetorical questions aside, the preseason happened and Wisconsin came out victorious against the defending champions Seattle Predators, catching everybody by surprise. McCorn put together a solid game with just two pass breakups and zero tackles. The Brigade secondary proved to be too much for Seattle’s new quarterback which was a nice thing to see. But no interceptions though :(

Donning a new uniform this season, the fifth year wide receiver Mr. Cornholio had a nice preseason debut working with a new quarterback, Teppei Renomitsu. While Cornholio didn’t reach the end zone, he was able to go over 100 yards and helped open up scoring opportunities for other playmakers. Cornholio appeared content after the game and was seen begging new safety Santa Claus for better Christmas gifts this year.

McCorn/Cornholio Year 5 Update #2

Lester McCorn is relevant this year for once. Sporting arguably the leagues best trio of cornerbacks, McCorn alongside Veteran Andreas Saint-Sebastian and second year Zane Montgomery have been a force to be reckoned with. The Brigade defensive backs leads the best passing defense in the EFL through the first four weeks and there doesn’t seem to be a weakness anywhere amongst the trio. Band they’re having fun while doing it. Of course; winning solves a lot of problems. Wisconsin is bound to lose at some point - it’ll be interesting to see how this team reacts after a loss whenever it might happen.

on the other side of the ball — Wisconsin’s offense has the points on their side (they are #1 in scoring thus far). The yards are certainly there too and they rank in the top-4 in both rushing and passing. Mr Cornholio was a huge free agent splash for the Brigade and it seems to be paying dividends so far. Cornholio ranks third in the EFL in receiving yards and is tied with New York’s Dan Wilinsky for receiving touchdowns. Beating his two former teams over the last two weeks was sweet indeed and it seems to have internally validated Corn’s decision to play for Wisconsin this year. The question is, can he keep up his production in hopes of earning his first WRotY award?

McCorn/Cornholio Year 5 Update #3

Lester McCorn was finally able to record his first interception in nearly two years. In Week 5 against the New York Herd, McCorn intercepted a pass from Logan Crawford [and deflected two other passes]. This was McCorn's first interception since Week 14 of S16 when McCorn intercepted a pass from Memphis Mambas' quarterback Martin Isaac. This brings McCorn's career interception total to... five [with two returned for touchdowns]. This certainly wasn't what McCorn was expecting in terms of accumulating interceptions when he first came over from the NCAA ranks, but it is what it is. McCorn hopes to reach double-digit interception totals before he's done.

Wisconsin is off to a hot start, winning five out of their first six games this year. The offense has put up at least 25 points in every game  and they've only yielded more than 30 twice and 40+ in their lone loss this year. Quarterback Teppei Renomitsu sports the best passing rating in the league to go along with a league-high 23 touchdowns. His top two receiving options [Mr. Cornholio & Greg Goodall West] have combined for 16 touchdowns and nearly 1,200 yards. That's hell of an offense to go up against. Cornholio has been relatively content this year and we haven't heard a peep out of him yet. He's got some stiff competition for the WRotY award, but can Cornholio continue his production and beat his numbers from S16?
